Abstract

To ensure the guaranteed quality of the billet (including internal volumes) in the process of bell and wheel, it is necessary to strictly adhere to a set of such inextricably linked technological parame- ters of casting as: the speed of the billet movement, the profile of the mold, the temperature liquid copper, which take into account the formation features of the solid shell under the conditions of a certain wheel. A mathematical model has been developed that allows to simulate the solidification of a copper billet cast on the wheel depending on its rotation speed, pouring temperature and cooling conditions, as well as to predict the quality of the internal structure of metal products. With the help of the created mathematical model, it was established that speed values of 1800-1900 rph and higher lead to the boundary of the solidification zone falling outside the permissible val- ues that determined by the condition of the separation of the billet from the wheel and its plastic deformation during the straightening process. Copper castings in the speed range of 1600-1800 rph are in the zone of increased risk of obtaining internal defects in the billet, which are caused by the conditions of difficult feeding of its internal areas with liquid metal. This is due to the fact that the billet begins to move up after reaching the lower critical point of the wheel. The most effective (from the point of view of productivity and quality of the billet) wheel rotating speed values are in the range of 1450-1600 rph. At the same time, it is advisable to control the profile of the working cavity of the wheel and determine the permissible deviations in its wear. Deviation from the nominal casting parameters can lead to uneven contact of the solidified shell with the wheel wall, which can cause defects in the geometric shape of the billet.
