It is shown that one of the urgent tasks in the theory and technology of foundry production is the scientific substantiation and implementation in industrial practice of non-destructive methods of controlling the mechanical and physical properties of cast iron and alloy castings. Literary sources on the dependence of thermal conductivity of castings made of cast iron with lamellar graphite on the content of chemical elements in its chemical composition, on its carbon equivalent and the degree of eutecticity are analysed. It is shown that the known empirical formulas reflecting the dependence of strength and hardness of castings from lamellar graphite iron on the carbon equivalent and the degree of eutecticity do not take into account the probabilistic nature of the chemical composition of industrial melts – batches of foundry products. The thermal conductivity coefficient is directly
proportional to these indicators of the chemical composition of cast iron and inversely proportional to the hardness of cast iron castings. There are no formulas in the technical literature that reflect the dependence of the thermal conductivity of cast iron on its chemical composition. It is shown that even within the grades of cast irons with lamellar graphite according to DSTU 8833:2019,
their thermal conductivity coefficient can vary by a factor of ~ 1.5. Based on the information on the chemical composition and thermal conductivity of lamellar graphite cast iron provided in DSTU 8833:2019, formulas were developed using a probabilistic approach with the Monte Carlo method to reflect the dependence of the thermal conductivity on the carbon equivalent and the degree of eutecticity of such cast iron. The formulas are intended for non-destructive testing and prediction of thermal conductivity of grey cast iron castings based on the eutecticity and carbon equivalent of its chemical composition and hardness.
