The current state of the theory and technology of production of castings from cast iron with vermicular graphite is considered. A comparative analysis of the chemical composition and properties of cast irons of various types and purposes is carried out. The results of research in the field of technology of manufacturing cast iron with vermicular graphite are summarised. Using the probabilistic approach and the Monte Carlo method, the values of the carbon equivalent and the degree of eutecticity of cast iron with vermicular graphite of various grades were calculated. The regularities of changes in strength, hardness, relative elongation, and thermal conductivity of castings made of vermicular graphite iron with its carbon equivalent and degree of eutecticity are shown. The strength and hardness of cast iron with vermicular graphite increase with a decrease in its carbon equivalent and degree of eutecticity. Relative elongation and thermal conductivity decrease. Regression dependences and correlation coefficients of these properties of cast iron with vermicular graphite on the values of carbon equivalent and degree of eutecticity were established. The correlation coefficient between the degree of eutecticity and carbon equivalent is close to one. The correlation between the hardness of the HB, the temporary tensile strength and the degree of eutecticity and carbon equivalent is 0.91–0.95. An explanation of the revealed regularities is given, as well as recommendations for the areas of application of cast iron castings with vermicular graphite.
