Abstract

This paper compares the results of obtaining an AlCuNiFeCr alloy of equiatomic composition by arc and electron beam methods. The chosen material is an analog of the well-known AlCoNiFeCr composition and is a high-entropy alloy. There is an ever-growing interest in this class of materials in the world, and the technologies for their production often remain expensive and inefficient. Therefore, an attempt was made to produce them using foundry technologies that allow for the production of significant alloy masses of several kilograms. After electron beam smelting, an alloy was obtained with copper and chromium carbon content of 33% and 24%, respectively. After a rather significant change in the chemical composition, however, an almost completely single-phase structure was obtained. The main phase resembled Ni3Al in chemical composition, with a significant proportion of nickel replaced by copper, iron, and chromium. This result may indicate that copper can significantly replace nickel in such phase formation, forming a continuous solution with it. At the same time, nickel dissolves iron, and iron dissolves chromium, which may explain the formation of one phase instead of several.
