Abstract

The constant development of the glass packaging production process and high-quality requirements necessitate the improvement of the tools and equipment required for production. In the process of manufacturing glass containers, the moulding set operating in difficult conditions is subject to the greatest wear and tear, such as: heating to high temperatures of the surface layer of the working cavity; formation of internal thermal stresses due to the temperature gradient across the cross-section; the thermal shock effect created because of cyclic temperature changes during operation; and mechanical impact on the working cavity of the moulding set from the glass mass, which is due to the peculiarities of the technological process of manufacturing glass containers. The article presents the results of studies of technological features of manufacturing castings from heat-resistant siliceous cast iron to create a directional gradient structure. Metallographic studies and determination of the mechanical properties of individual structural components of the metal matrix were carried out on the obtained samples. Because of the experiments, it was found that the technology variant with the use of an inoculant and a chiller achieved a directional gradient structure in the cast state. It has been determined that the size of graphite inclusions along the cross-section of the casting varies from 6 µm to 570 µm in the area of surface treatment of cast iron and from 29 µm to 1130 µm on the opposite side, which will provide better performance properties
compared to a product with a homogeneous structure. It was found that for both technological variants, the formation of a ferrite-pearlite structure was observed in the cast state. The results obtained will be used for further research to ensure that the required structure is obtained after heat treatment or in the cast state without additional heat treatment. This will significantly improve
economic performance.
