Abstract

The purpose of these studies was to develop the latest method of manufacturing bimetallic products using liquid-phase joining of dissimilar metal alloys to obtain flat bimetallic structures based on the use of casting processes, laser processing and induction heating. Based on these prerequisites, in this paper, the authors proposed a new laser-induction casting method for the production of bimetallic materials, which allows obtaining high-quality joints of dissimilar iron-carbon and non-ferrous alloys In the work, research was conducted on the optimization of methods of heating metal plates under the action of laser radiation and an electromagnetic field to create conditions for the formation of bimetallic flat structures from dissimilar materials. A search for structural and phase differences in the initial and final alloys and in the transition layers between them was also carried out. The work presents a diagram of an experimental laboratory installation that involves preliminary heating of a billet moving in an electromagnetic field, which creates an inductor to temperatures of 800–1100 °C. As well as further heating by laser radiation to the melting temperature of the surface of the steel billet (1450–1520 °C). and subsequent supply of the metal melt to the processing
zone and formation of a bimetallic structure from dissimilar alloys. The paper presents the results of research into the effect of induction and laser surface heating in an oxidizing medium, which satisfy the conditions of a liquid-phase connection with the subsequent pouring of a liquid melt onto the surface of the workpiece based on the analysis of the structural-phase state of the transition layer. Structural and phase studies of the obtained samples in the area of transitional layers were carried out and the transformations of the morphological structure of the components of the iron-carbon and non-ferrous alloys used in the work were determined. The main results of the work are evidence of the formation of the morphology of transition layers, structural changes in the transition layer, which ensure the integrity, stability and strength of the transition layer, and, accordingly, the strength of the structure with different combinations of materials.
